IBRAHIM TRAORE REINAUGURATE THE BIGGEST BREWERY AFTER 20 YEARS

Burkina Faso’s Iconic Brewery Reborn After 20 Years: A Bold Step Toward National Industrialization

After nearly two decades of silence, the legendary Société Nouvelle Brasseries du Faso (SN-BRAFASO) in Silmissi, Komsilga, has roared back to life embodying Burkina Faso’s renewed push toward economic sovereignty and industrial revival.

The reopening ceremony, led by President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, marked much more than the restarting of a beverage factory. It symbolized the nation’s determination to reclaim control of its economic future.

A Landmark Moment for Industrial Sovereignty

In his address, President Traoré emphasized that the brewery’s revival is living proof that Burkina Faso is breaking away from external economic influence

The factory’s rehabilitation cost over 17 billion FCFA, and the company now boasts 6 billion FCFA in share capital, with the Burkinabè state holding a 70% majority stake. This strategic ownership demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that national industries serve national interests.

A Massive Boost to Employment and the Local Economy

SN-BRAFASO’s relaunch brings substantial economic benefits:

  1.     200 permanent jobs
  2.     100 temporary positions
  3.     Approximately 20,000 indirect jobs

Beyond numbers, the brewery establishes a renewed foundation for local production, significantly reducing reliance on imported beverages and injecting new energy into the country’s industrial sector.

A Resurrection Not Without Resistance

The path to revival was not smooth. President Traoré revealed a troubling incident from March 2024, when newly installed equipment was deliberately sabotaged by certain local workers. The President suggested deeper motives behind the act, calling it a tactic driven by forces opposed to Burkina Faso’s economic independence.

He condemned what he described as “imperialism and its local jackals,” insisting that such threats only strengthen the government's resolve. Extraordinary security measures were implemented to safeguard the site and ensure progress continued uninterrupted.

A Vision for Nationwide Industrial Renewal

Despite the challenges, President Traoré affirmed that SN-BRAFASO’s reopening is just the beginning. The government plans to revive all dormant industrial units across the country, positioning industrialization at the heart of Burkina Faso’s development agenda.

The new brewery, with its state-of-the-art technology and annual production capacity of 600,000 hectolitres, is expected to reshape the nation’s industrial future and stimulate broader economic transformation.

A Milestone for a New Burkina Faso

The rebirth of SN-BRAFASO isn’t just a victory for one factory—it's a signal that Burkina Faso is actively rewriting its economic story. With renewed industrial ambition, bold leadership, and the determination to overcome sabotage and setbacks, the nation is stepping confidently toward a future built by its own hands.

But this moment isn’t only for leaders and policymakers. It’s for every citizen, every entrepreneur, every young person who dreams of a stronger, self-reliant Burkina Faso.

As this new chapter unfolds, one question remains: Do you see this as the beginning of a wider industrial revolution in Burkina Faso?
